Frequently Asked Questions

Enter any long URL and click Shorten. The URL is sent to is.gd, a free URL shortening service, which returns a short link. The shortened URL redirects visitors to your original link permanently.

Links created via is.gd are permanent and do not expire. However, boxtool.io does not control the is.gd service, so link availability depends on is.gd's uptime and policies. For mission-critical links, consider a dedicated URL management service.

After shortening a URL, click the QR button to generate a QR code for the short link. You can download the QR code as a PNG image and use it in print materials, presentations, or anywhere you want people to scan and visit your link.

Yes. Your link history is stored entirely in your browser's localStorage — it never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data will remove the history. The history is only visible to you on this device.

URLs must start with http:// or https://. The service does not support shortening IP addresses, localhost URLs, or private network addresses. URLs flagged as malicious or spam by is.gd will be rejected.

is.gd applies rate limiting to prevent abuse. For normal use (a few links at a time), you will not hit any limits. If you need to shorten many URLs in bulk, consider their API documentation for commercial plans.
