Frequently Asked Questions
Rates are fetched from ExchangeRate-API (open.er-api.com), a free public API that provides real-time exchange rates for 170+ currencies. Rates are typically updated every hour.
The tool fetches fresh rates on first load and caches them locally for 1 hour. After the cache expires, a new request is made automatically. You can also click the "Refresh" button to force an update at any time.
If you have previously loaded rates, they are stored in your browser's localStorage. If you go offline or the API is unavailable, the tool will use the cached rates and show a notice indicating cached data is being used.
Click either the From or To dropdown and start typing — you can search by currency code (e.g. "BRL") or by currency name (e.g. "real"). The list filters in real time.
The free tier of ExchangeRate-API covers fiat currencies only. Cryptocurrencies like BTC or ETH are not included in this tool.
Conversions are as accurate as the rates provided by the API, which are mid-market rates. For financial transactions, always verify with your bank or payment provider, as they apply their own spreads and fees.
